Partners in Mission Food Bank distributed 1,306,598 lbs of food in 2024, nearly 160,000 lbs more than 2023. Our West end pickup location at St. Paul the Apostle was reduced to two Wednesdays a month due to lack of demand.
On January 14, 2025, the City of Kingston declared a food insecurity emergency with 1 in 3 households being food insecure. We can attest to the challenges faced in our community as 1 in 17 people in Kingston and Loyalist Township received a food hamper from us in 2024, which has increased from 1 in 19 in 2023.
In 2025 we continue to be challenged with the higher costs of food. This along with the anticipation of helping over 12,000 neighbours this year will put pressure on resources. With a volunteer retirement, our Amherstview hamper pickup had to change from Fridays to Thursdays from 10am to 1pm. We are happy to say all our work to plan, prepare, and move to 4 Harvey Street has been worth it. Our clients love being able to choose their own food in our new grocery store model. Our volunteers appreciate connecting with and helping our neighbours. We are able to provide a much more dignified experience now.
