Changes to Partners in Mission Food Blitz

15 Mar 2016

Partners in Mission Food Bank has developed a new way to collect food this year for our annual “Food Blitz”. Starting this April 30th, food will be collected at 10 area grocery stores instead of volunteers going door-to-door. Although that method has been successful in the past, the organisers have decided to make it easier for donors making their contributions.
With the ever increasing size of the city and new streets being added every year, it has been impossible to mobilize enough volunteers to reach everyone in one evening.  There have been new challenges as well in getting enough collection bags out into the community through decreasing newspaper circulations and logistics of having the bags manufactured and inserted.
The new plan of collecting at grocery stores has proven to be much easier for donors when tried in the past. Setting up collection sites at 10 locations throughout the city on a Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm instead of a mid-week evening, should be a welcome change. With the new format donors won’t have to set the bag aside, make a point of buying extra when they shop , take it home and then wait for it to be picked up. Now, donors will simply be asked by a volunteer if they would like to make a donation and then receive their bag at the entrance to the store. Financial contributions will also be welcomed.
Collection trucks will be positioned at each location and have been made available by Ryder Truck Rentals.
