The Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA) is recognizing the Kingston Canadians U12A team for their food collection efforts to benefit a local food bank.

Each month, the OMHA, in partnership with CoachThem, an online coaching tool, choose three winners for the OMHA Team of the Month, and the local minor hockey team was one of three chosen for November 2025.

The program is aimed at recognizing minor hockey teams in the province making “a positive impact on the ice as well as in their communities”, and “who demonstrate all of the positives that hockey has to offer.”

“This award isn’t about going undefeated during the month or scoring hat tricks, it’s about stories of teamwork and perseverance, leadership and being good role models in and around the rink,” the OMHA said.

“Our players understand the privilege they have to be able to play competitive hockey. Each year we find ways to give back and support our community members in need.,” the Kingston Canadians U12A team said in their submission. “For the month of October the U12A Kingston Canadians used their hockey bags to canvas their community and collected over 17 hockey bags full of non-perishable food.”

According to the team, their final collection weigh-in was over 850lbs, with all food and monetary donations given directly to the Kingston Partners in Mission Food Bank.
